Overview
In this 15-hour training and immersion - 12 hours live online plus homework - Cyndi will introduce shamatha or mindfulness/awareness meditation as the foundation for cultivating self-knowledge and confidence in our own goodness, insight and compassion. This is the path to making friends with your own mind.
Mindfulness meditation practice helps you connect to your inherent strength, stability and clarity. Built on her 30 years as a Buddhist practitioner and meditation teacher, Cyndi has designed this course to balance what are traditionally known as the two wings of the bird: study and practice.
Level 1 of Cyndi's mindfulness meditation training program has been developed to be your guide for beginning or further developing your personal meditation practice. It will not prepare you to teach a meditation class but, in ensuring that everyone has the relevant background, is the pre-requisite for level 2 that certifies you to teach meditation in a group setting.
Course content:
– 4-6 dharma talks
– 8 meditation sessions
– Journaling exercises
– Small group assignments
– “Movement snacks” - simple stretching and restorative yoga to reawaken stagnant physical energy
– Traditional walking meditation will be integrated into the program as a bridge practice between formal sitting meditation and the more interactive aspect of our daily life.
Breakdown:
Practice:
– Detailed instruction and practice of mindfulness meditation (shamatha)
– Detailed sitting posture work (on a cushion or in a chair)
– Instruction and practice of walking meditation
– Practice mindfulness-in-motion via simple stretching sequences
– Practice self-care through restorative yoga
Study:
Cyndi will conduct a number of dharma talks including:
– What meditation is and is not; what mindfulness is and is not
– The benefits of mindfulness meditation: stability, clarity, strength
– Understanding the two layers of motivation
– Recognising obstacles in practice and how to work with them
– Understanding the origin of these practices/overview of the Buddhist path
– Introduction to the four noble truths and how that relates to all of us now
– Introduction to the Brahma Vihara and how to dedicate your practice
If this sounds serious, don’t worry. One of the greatest benefits of meditation is that it clears the way for joy to appear. In the meantime, all you have to do is show up. Just that.

I really liked Cyndi's style of teaching and she explained everything clearly. It was also great to feel part of a community even though we were all doing this via Zoom, we really did feel connected."
